In the end I was limited by my own shortcomings, so I settled on a much smaller, more recent dream—that of being a runner. I had the thought that maybe I could do a little running about a year ago, not thinking it would turn into anything of substance. Then when I broke the 3-minute mark (that's 3 minutes of running without stopping), and saw that I really wasn't going to die from it, I decided to aspire to the lofty goal of running a 5K in this, my 50th year. I did, and wound up winning my age group. It helps to wait until you actually turn 50, thus putting you in the next group up, wherein you are the youngest. Then I ran another, and now I'm looking forward to running my first half-marathon in May.

Thankful I'm healthy enough to run ~

Good for you! What a great dream become reality!!
great photo for the prompt! :)
That's a great dream. Good for you.
That is a great story! My mom also took up running after all of us were grown. Word on the street is you have a little more extra time and energy when you've got an empty nest ;-) (Although I'm a big fan of having my little girl in the nest right now!) This picture tells your story quite well. I like the composition.
I love your picture and, honestly, I am very proud of you!
Karen! You're very inspirational. We have so much in common that you make me think *I* could actually take up running again. (Nahhhhh.....I'm pretty sure all my shock absorbers are worn out).
Found you through Darcy's p52 and really enjoy your writing.
I love your humurous outlook on such a fantastic acheivement. I plan to start running once my kids get back to school, 10 days of holidays left here in Australia. I will be wrapped if I break the 3 minute mark sometime!!!
Way to go. That is a great accomplishment!
