This has been a very difficult day to be thankful since my thoughts have been overwhelmingly on the results of yesterday's election. I'll spare you the rant that's been going through my head since I opened my eyes this morning. But I will share this one thought.
Christians all over facebook this morning were reminding us that "God is in control." While I appreciate that sentiment, I heartily disagree in this case. I believe God has stood back and taken his hands off America, which is just the way we (collectively) want it. He is now going to give us what we've elected to have, and we're going to suffer the consequences of our choices. He is under absolutely no obligation to be merciful to us after what we've done. We had plenty of warning.
Sorry about that negative note. I do try not to use the blog for political ranting; that's what Twitter is for. ;)
But in spite of all that's gone wrong in the last 24 hours, I am still a thankful person, with much to be thankful for. Tomorrow I will see my daughter and son-in-law from Tennessee, and that means GRANDBABIES!! I just can't wait to kiss their fat little cheeks!
I will be in Lynchburg for a couple of days, but I'll try to post a few pictures here from my phone.

Well, Karen, I can totally understand your 'rant', and have been listening to my poor husband sharing his. =)
I would still like to say that God is in control. I do believe you are right, He gave Americans what they want. In the Old Testament, the Israelites wanted a king. It wasn't God's desire for them - He wanted to be their King, but they whined and complained; ultimately, He gave them exactly what they wanted. They even knew the consequences and still wanted it! That's us in a nutshell, isn't it?
My heart this entire election was heavy...I prayed for His mercy, but I know we merit His judgment. It's sobering to think about what we will see in the next 4 years. My consolation is that He is able to preserve us in wickedness, like He kept Daniel and the three Hebrews, and that this world is not my home.

Oh, Karen, make room for me in your little boat. I was just so sad on Tuesday night. I think partly because I realized that most people in America really didn't think like me about so many things. God. Abortion. The value of having a work ethic. I was shocked. I have spent more time reading by Bible since the election than I have for quite a while. Spending time perusing some of the end of the book...
