I've got my snow shovels out too.

Here I sit, Tuesday, October 5, enjoying a lovely fire in my wood stove. This might be a record of early fire-building. Even Ben-the-perpetually-cold laughed at me when he came in today.

But here's the thing. It's chilly (ok, so maybe 56 is not chilly, but there's no sunshine to warm things up) and damp, and that just makes me miserable. And since I got rid of the hot flashes . . . What? You didn't know that was possible? Ha! Well let me tell you the secret:

No, this is not a hormone of any kind. It's a combination of black cohosh (an herb) and valerian to help you sleep. Once a day. No side effects. Good Zzzzz's. Almost no hot flashes (maybe 2 or 3 a day at most). It's my new best friend. Ben calls them happy pills. (And no, I am not an affiliate and the makers of Estroven have no idea who I am. I just love the stuff.)

Where was I? Oh, yes. The fire. Everyone is out and I'm just sitting here enjoying the cozy fire and the sound of the panting dog who is too stupid to move away from it.

Now here's a question for you: why are these soccer socks labeled left and right?

Does it really matter which foot they go on? And while we're on that subject, why are earbuds labeled? Does the music sound different if you put them in the wrong ears? Would our brains scramble the sound if we put the left bud in the right ear and vice versa?

And here's another thing I've been thinking about: You know the song "The Itsy Bitsy Spider"? Well who decided you could say "incy wincy" or "eensy weensy"? I am not making this up. I read this on Wikipedia, and we all know you can trust the validity Wiki. But really, incy wincy? That's ridiculous! Everyone knows there's no such word as wincy or even weensy. Bitsy, on the other hand, is actually found in Webster's dictionary, and that proves it's right. So which version did you grow up saying?

As you can see, I have had way too much thinking time on my hands. Tomorrow I hope to remedy that with lots of work and school, and then cooking for teenagers and singing practice and church.

Be thankful ~

Karen

Itsy, bitsy. It is amazing how things can change.
On another note, it was in the high 50's here in Central Florida this morning. It felt wonderful! Of course it got up to 84 and sunny in the afternoon. I am enjoying the cool mornings and nights. I hope they are here to stay and that we are finished with the 90's.

Mama mia,

Left and right socks make no sense. But left and right earbuds ARE actually different, because stereo music separates the music into two bands, each of which can sound really weird without the other one in your ear.

For an example, go pop in Third Day's Come Together cd, and listen to the first song with one earbud in, the other out. The guitars come through one ear, and the rest comes in through the other ear.

And your brain mixes it automatically :D

Different music also has a different effect on you depending on which ear it comes through. I hear guitars out of my right ear much better than my left; but orchestral music doesn't sound right unless I listen with my left ear. I'm not sure why, but that's the way it is :D

I heard someone singing "eensy weensy" to her kid the other day and I wanted to say, "Hey, you're singing it WRONG!" But I didn't, I just came home and taught Jonathan Itsy Bitsy, like it's supposed to be.

Itsy Bitsy, for sure. Any other way would just be wrong. :-) Ear buds actually matter, as Mike said, above. And labeling socks is weird... I think anyway. I don't even bother with matching socks. They just go in a pile... they go in shoes anyway, why should they match?! Who said socks need to match?! My husband has white socks, all the same brand, and wool socks, all the same brand, so he just grabs two of whatever kind he wants to wear out of the drawer, I however, am almost always mismatched in a very loud and colorful way. I prefer it that way. The kids fall somewhere in between the two of us, as family insists upon getting them all manner of hello kitty, strawberry shortcake and striped socks.
